 Common Carrier Shipments

Please read this information and ask questions before the order has shipped as this will help keep business relations open. It is very important that all parties understand how to handle any situations that may occur.

This policy is to advise Display Showcase.com customers of the policies set forth by all major trucking companies. The rules set forth by the freight carriers are made to protect the shipper, the consignee (you the customer) and the freight carriers. If the rules are followed as explained any damage or shortage problems are easily solved.

All freight carriers deliver the items shipped to the closest point of your address. A standard freight quote does not include the driver bringing the items inside of your door. There is an extra charge for inside delivery.

There are two different charges for inside delivery. An item that can be carried in by a driver without extra help, is a certain charge. If the shipment has items because of size or weight that requires an extra helper there is a higher charge.

If you can unload the shipment yourself, the standard freight quote allows you to take the items off of the back of the trailer. If the items are too heavy or packaged in a manner of which the items need to be brought to ground level a lift gate charge shall apply.

A residential delivery is a shipment that is delivered to a residence or church (considered a residential area) and there is an extra charge.

Most truck lines do not call before delivery. If an appointment must be made there is an extra charge.

It is of the utmost importance to understand how to accept any truck line shipment. If the policies explained here are not followed a major part of the problem solving situations fall upon the consignee (person or company receiving the shipment).

When the shipper gives the freight carrier the items to be shipped a driver inspects the shipment and signs for the goods that they are in good and shippable condition.

Upon receiving a shipment the customer has the right to inspect the items, within a reasonable time before the driver leaves. Please remember that the driver has other deliveries and can only stop for a short time to allow the customer time to inspect.

If damage or a shortage is found it must be noted (signed damaged or short for the particular item) on the delivery receipt.
Example: 10 items were shipped and 1 showcase was damaged and If you are accepting the damaged item, sign (1) damaged showcase. Then call Display Showcases.com to advise of damage and a disposition.

The above statement is the most over looked problem of receiving shipments. Damaged goods must be noted damaged or they are considered concealed damage.

Any damaged item can be refused.

Concealed damage is any item that is found to have damage after it has been delivered and signed for in good condition. This means that the truck line carries only partial responsibility for the damage. This is the hardest area of damage to understand. If you sign for the goods as being complete and undamaged, the freight line cannot accept full responsibility because it was signed for in good condition. Call the freight company for an inspection and they will handle the claim with you.

You must understand it is your responsibility to inspect all goods before signing that there is nothing wrong. Concealed damage is generally paid out to the consignee at only a percentage of the value of the item. The freight company can only assume that the receiver of the shipment may have damaged the goods after it was signed for in good condition.

The shipper before delivery must approve any and all extra freight charges. The driver cannot approve for any extra charges such as inside delivery or lift gates. If these charges are needed at time of delivery it may delay your shipment until another day because the driver cannot get approval without calling their company and in return the freight line must call the shipper. This cannot be done at time of delivery. We apologize.

Please make sure that you understand and follow all policies described here. We do everything in our power to help any and all customers with their shipments.

Summary: Inspect all items before signing any and all paper work and call us if any problems occur.
